Haflings: Cardinal Monstrous Cavalry

Well found a couple birds at a local Dollar Store and figured they may be used for some Monstrous Cavalry.  Well they size up to demigryphs and have motion sensors so they can chirp away all game!

Ended up making 15+ Monstrous Cavalry bases a few of which are for the models below.

Yup found these comparable models at the dollar store.  They have motion sensors in them and chirp, perfect for a tournament!  Can't wait to bring them and have some fun.  Converted with Halfling riders on the back and my usual war bases.

Half-Humans: The Halfling Archers

Half Humans: The Halfling Archers

The models as described before have been taken from the Dogs of War set The Fighting Cocks from the early to late 1990s.  They are a mix of GW models that tie in a common archer theme.  The Ogre in the middle ranks acts as a unit filler painted to match in the same way and is the Ogre BodyGuard from the mid 1990s game Mordheim.  A custom banner must still be added to the Standard Bearer and more Archer bits will be added once a few more units have been completed.

My Fighting Cocks painted up Green!

Mordheim bodyogre Added to the Center!

Angled view of my 31 Fighting cock Archers with BullyOgre
The custom banner is added here next to the ogre. some eggs added to it with some bretonnian shields matching the colors of the unit.  Next some shields with checkered patterns that will be added to the unit.

Half-Humans: The Halfling Army Sword and Board

Half-Human: Sword and Board Battle Forge Halflings

This is a unit of 24 sword and board halflings with a hand painted banner.  All details are finished up with eyes, custom banner, and countless layers on all leather, blue, and steel.  My usual raised bases as well.  Going to be adding some details to the bases if I can like skulls and weapons strewn about.

Hand crafted nest egg on the front of the banner!

Back view close up.

Getting these bad boys together was tough all bases had to be altered since they weren't slotta bases, ended up tooling them, then pinning them.  Lots of washing and layering.  More to come with the Halflings I just have to organize some colors, be prepared to see them at Blood in the Sun 2014.

The Halfling Army Project: Halfling Demi Cock Riders

Halfling Demi Cock Riders

By: ODT Gaming

These 2x3 units of Demi 'Gryph' Cock riders are usable in my upcoming Halfling army.  They were scratch built from rubber toy chickens and roosters and combined with Empire bits, metal halflings, and bretonnian peasant and knight bits.
Bits were taken from the Demi-Gryph Empire set to make the armor

Green stuffing armor was also used

This unit has lances and added on Bretonnian bits

Saddles were custom made and my cork basing used to

Half-Humans The Halfling Army: Demi-Cocks

Halfling Demi-Cocks

So the idea here taken from a previous Halfling army was to convert some model chickens into demi gryph knights.  The effort to find the models took a couple days and then waiting for them to arrive another week.  The bases are cut from 3"x24" wood from hobby lobby which I got 12 bases out of for $2.99.  The Rooster and chicken sets were about 6 a piece on ebay and the demi-gryph box was bought for msrp, so all in all more expensive in the long run for these kid conversions, but they are fun.

Yes Demi Gryphons and Demi Cocks being hacked out!
Comparison of the Rooster(rubber mold from ebay) to a WIP Halfling!
12 wooden bases for my Cock Cav.
The 10 final bases I put cork on, sanded, and added bits to, priming next.

These images below are the Wip images of the wooden bases with cork glued on them and the chickens with Demi-gryph bits on them, empire bits, and bret armor.  Green stuff has been added and used for molding the armor.  Three of the demi gryphs have been chopped up and armor, heads, and legs added onto the chicks.  Additionally trophy heads, look at the top middle rooster, with chains have been added to each monstrous cavalry rooster.  Further conversions will be added to the riders, from battleforge, with green stuff, weapon swaps, and skulls.

Bases and Demi-Cocks being worked on.

Half-Humans: Halflings

So far I have collected some halflings over the past year and a few are below.  Most of these are this points are pinned and primed but I wanted to post a before picture before these start getting finished soon.  I tried picking up halflings that would match and also give me a variety of troops.  I am still looking for more pony riders, Halfling Spearmen, and Halfling Great weapon troops.     I have a collection of the GW and Battleforge minis with more to come.
Picked up a couple sets of farm animals
Another shot of pinned GW minis in a box Fighting Cocks and 90s Empire Halflings, I have about double this in another box.

Army Project: Half-Men - The Halfling Army Project: 2014

Half-Men: The Halfling Army Project

With several years of collecting halflings and meddling with army project ideas I am finally pursuing the halflings as a feasible project.  With some ideas behind the scenes on order I am going to try and make cohesive units.  Basic units such as sword and board, archer units, and cavalry units will be worked on.  However, as a humanoid, the halflings, I will use bits and inspiration from empire, Bretonnians, and dwarfs.  The hopeful in me will be to try and use the army as a potential for all three races depending on conversions, base sizes, and themes I incorporate into the army.  These are links and some inspirational pics that I have put below as a starter.  I think as a theme similar to below I will either make each unit its own thematic scene or be themed around farming/food.  As with the other armies I have worked on I will try and add a bit of skulls and raised bases to the little guys to.  Check back at least monthly or I'll post updates at least bi monthly, some progress could be slow depending on how much conversion needs to be done with the models.

If you know me, I love the giants and ogres integrated with the units, it adds depth and character.

Monstrous cavalry idea maybe, not mine on chaos dwarf site.

Great hand painted banners.

I will have to do a steamtank for the halflings for sure!
I love the 5 sheep riders, hurricanum, and 5 pony riders in the left half of the picture here.
