Merry Mayhem 2013: Best Painted and featured armies

ODT Gaming Presents:

Merry Mayhem Best Painted Charity Tournament Dec. 14, 2013

Winner: Johnny Hastings and other hobbyists...

Obviously Johnny Hastings brought the Bull Ogres and Won Best Painted along with several Individual Painting Awards, good job.

An Army Wide image of the entire Bull Ogre army

The Scratchbuilt Ironblaster from a Giant Kit with several additional arms and green stuff fur, all over reported 30-100 hrs of work total?!

Army Wide Shot of Dustin Vogels Orcs and goblins, Lots of Conversions and eye catching Board

A Close up of a converted Character, I think a wyvern out of a LOTR Monster

A Spider Hiding in the Rocks

Obviously not painted to a top standard but notice the conversions A-Rock Spiders in the back

Then the Spider unit here all reved up and a spiders's caprice as a unit filler.
A little more work on the painting side and this filler would look good.

Probably the Nurgle Drone Beasts

Jerrod Horstman's DoC Nurgle I suspect!
Big Bloody Greater Daemon I suspect, but its looks to be all Green Stuffed/ converted.  Of course that's Epidemus on top!

My very own WoC Monster army!

Saw this Dwarf Army, Kevin Fleming, and out of no where this cave/mountain stronghold fort stood out! Very impressive it has a scratch built rear hill section and GW Walls and fortifications in the front.

The dwarfs looked to all have some type of stone basing, very cool.

Half-Humans: The Halflings

Half-Humans: Halflings

So far I have collected some halflings over the past year and a few are below.  Most of these are this points are pinned and primed but I wanted to post a before picture before these start getting finished soon.  I tried picking up halflings that would match and also give me a variety of troops.  I am still looking for more pony riders, Halfling Spearmen, and Halfling Great weapon troops.     I have a collection of the GW and Battleforge minis with more to come.
Picked up a couple sets of farm animals
Another shot of pinned GW minis in a box Fighting Cocks and 90s Empire Halflings, I have about double this in another box.
Halfling Millitia Sword & Shield x25
Picked up a unit of these guys from battleforge! Sword and Board!
Got a lot of these of ebay, battleforge cavalry yeoman riders.

Army Project: Half-Men - The Halfling Army Project: 2014

Half-Men: The Halfling Army Project

With several years of collecting halflings and meddling with army project ideas I am finally pursuing the halflings as a feasible project.  With some ideas behind the scenes on order I am going to try and make cohesive units.  Basic units such as sword and board, archer units, and cavalry units will be worked on.  However, as a humanoid, the halflings, I will use bits and inspiration from empire, Bretonnians, and dwarfs.  The hopeful in me will be to try and use the army as a potential for all three races depending on conversions, base sizes, and themes I incorporate into the army.  These are links and some inspirational pics that I have put below as a starter.  I think as a theme similar to below I will either make each unit its own thematic scene or be themed around farming/food.  As with the other armies I have worked on I will try and add a bit of skulls and raised bases to the little guys to.  Check back at least monthly or I'll post updates at least bi monthly, some progress could be slow depending on how much conversion needs to be done with the models.

If you know me, I love the giants and ogres integrated with the units, it adds depth and character.

Monstrous cavalry idea maybe, not mine on chaos dwarf site.

Great hand painted banners.

I will have to do a steamtank for the halflings for sure!
I love the 5 sheep riders, hurricanum, and 5 pony riders in the left half of the picture here.

Invasion Kenosha V Battle Report

Battle Report: Invasion Kenosha V

Invasion is a single day 2k WHF tournament hosted in Kenosha, WI, USA.  It is a 30 person Tournament hosted at Rockheads Game and Comics.  John Gaszak of Unstable Dice Podcast ran and TO'd the event.  It included locals and out of state gamers alike.  The event had food, prizes, and drawings that benefited the non-for profit organizations.  Special scenarios, battlefield objective markers and Monster were allowed from Monstrous Arcanum and Storm of Magic.  Here is a run down of my list and games.

My Demonic Warriors:
Demon Prince: Nurgle, Chaos Sorcerer lvl 2 Fire, 18 Nurgle Warriors, 4x5 Chaos Hounds, Chimera, Bale Taurus, 6 Chaos Ogres, and 3 Skull Crushers.
My First Opponent was Ben Cone with Tomb Kings: (win)
2 level 4's Death and Light, Casket, 6 Tomb Chariots, 1 Scorpion, 5 Skeleton Archers, 2 Sphinxs, 10 Archers
This first game was a iffy matchup for Ben, and he knew that going into it.  My deployment started with 4 hounds 2 for each quarter on the line and then heavy deployment on either flank.  I deployed to the left because thats where his casket went on the 5th drop.  My luck started turn 2 when his Generals unit failed a stupidity test(scenario special rule) and moved forward.  This allowed my skullcrushers to charge them turn 3.  Other fights included my chimera into his Casket turn 2, DP into Nechrach Knights, and chaos hounds redirecting the T8 Sphinxs.  We shortly called the game after his general died and units were taking leadership tests.

Deployment game 1

My second opponent was Harshey with Empire (win)

The second game had a very large building in the center with a Battle for the pass type deployment.  I ended up setting up on the opposite corner of his cannons(right) allowing the building to block LoS of my big monsters.  He had 2x3 Demigryph knights, level 4 death, Stank, 20 Greatswords, 30 Halberdiersmen, 30 Swordsmen, and 5 knights with BSB.  The interesting outcome here was a scenario win but a victory points loss.  My Skullcrushers broke through and captured an objective on the opposite end of the board while my Chimera, chaos hounds and Demon Prince got Purple Sunned off the table.  The major objective was not losing the least standards.

Game 3 was against David Witek of GarageHammer (win)
Necro - Level 3 LoV, Vamp - Lvl 2 LoV, Vamp BSB Lvl - 1, 3x30 Zombies, 30 Skeletons, 2 direwolves, 4 blood knights, 2 Spirit Hosts.

My Third Game Versus Dave W. was great fun but very challenging versus his invocation spamming.  It was very difficult to overcome his zombie hordes until later in the game.  I had some issues with it until I got a unit of Skullcrushers around his flank however by that turn 3-4 move it was games end.  Dave kept me at bay long enough for me to receive less victory points because of the Spamming.  Great opponent and Great Game.  I had a great time and ended up winning the pod I was in.  Next Tournament I am planning n going to up North is Merry Mayhem, a post on that in a couple months.

Orcs and Goblins: Squig Project

Squigs on the Horizon

A Large addition to my orcs and goblins with the add on of 44 squigs.  Now I am able to have a herd of 60 squigs and a lot more herders.  However, more herders are needed if they are ever divided into 2 units.  The new unit has raised cork bases and more layering then before.  Also they squigs are painted in 4 sets of 11 whereas my squigs before were all different colors, so a little more unique.
a large block of 44 Squigs

My end goal is going to be making a whole army of squigs and I am well on my way there since I have manglers already done and all my core painted.  I don't think this will be that good of a performance army but squigs are nothing to sneeze at either.

Regiment of Renown Tournament

and

Demonic Warrior Update!

Well we concluded our first Regiment of Renown Tournament and got our first taste of rules.  I am including into this my update for my Regiment: Demonic Warriors and a some tournament pictures.  In my new list I changed a couple things mainly turning my Nurgle warriors into Khorne warriors. We played 4 games in 3 hours and the first three went very fast.  The fourth game took about 45 minutes and was amusing.  We went 1 on 1 for three rounds and some games ended on turn 2 or 3 because of models being lost, being slaughtered, or panic checks failing when armies reached half models lost.  I do have to add that  the armies Leader was a very important battle.  The leader himself gained abilities every round after each game and also had 20 points in free magic items.  Needless to say when you add Strength, Initiative etc characters became tough.

Warriors Project: Chaos Sorcerer on Disc

Tzeench Sorcerer on Disc

This sorcerer was envisioned when I saw one of the mantle's from Storm of Magic.  It inspired me to convert the current disc rider I had into a monstrous disc rider.  Since bigger is better I went for it and got the terrain piece from bartertown.com.  Added some 40k spikes, hull ship piece, and presto.  Also, the rider is heavily green stuffed with flames, a whip from a chariot rider, shield from a chaos knight, and Demon Prince spikes and head.

Finished rider, more blue highlights later down the road.
