Sat. Battle Report Acon

The Orc Ogres.
A level 4 maw Level 1 Firebelly BSB with Banner of Eternal flame 10 Ironguts with FC 6 Bulls with Additional Hand weapons 6 Lead Belchers 3 Sabretusks 1 Ironblaster 3 Mournfangs 2 units of Gnoblars, sorry no traps
Game 1 went against Mr. Wappel with Lizardmen. He had a slann with temple guard, a unit of skinks with 4 kroxigors, 2 individual salamanders, a unit of terradons with a skink hero, and 5 cold one riders. This epic game proceeded with 1 lore of life spell in 3 rounds and 1-2 spells from the ogres in 2 turns. 6 miscasts happened in 3 turns. Meanwhile we both failed all turn 2 charges and his cold one riders failed their leadership role for stupidity. This game turned into a huge double combat in the center of the board with my firebelly+bulls versus his skink/Krox unit eventually breaking the crox. The following turn found the temple guard unit in combat with the SM+BSB+Ironguts plus the ironblaster. We shook hands after the skinks broke cursing the dice. A full slew of battle points put me on table 5 round 2. Game 2 went against a DoC player Named Mr. Walters. Mr. Walters reminded me of Domus, whom he beat down game 1, and played next to Mr. Wappell and myself. His double Bloodletter horde+ herald, 2x6 unit of Tzeench firestarters and Horror plus lore of life Herald proved to much for me. I ended up getting a bubble +1 strength spell and popping the first unit of Bloodletters but not after he killed half the leadbelchers and half the bulls. The following turn he reformed and I charged. I failed to get any spells off and he dispelled the +1 strength finally. I broke and he ran me down and since it was blood and glory we had to stop. This game could have gone differently because i should have threw chaff into the second unit of 40 letters and shot/magic them one more turn before going headlong into the chop fest. Well played sir, but a loss for the ogres. Game 3 saw me 1-1 and going into the muck of the middle tables, so people are so beneath me, lol. And so I fought Empire Steve, my Team Tournament arch rivale of the local scene. We were okay with it, but did make mention of switching to new opponents. We played dawn attack and cornered deployed. This was a typical beat fest. My ironblaster did eat a cannonball but I just charged in headlong versus poor steve. The empire blocks eventually folded by turn 4-5 and it was a win for the Ogres. Game 4, late night by the way, went to Lord of War Ted. Ted brought his ogre list which had a irongut x10, bulls x16, and 2 units of 3 Mournfangs with a unit of 3 maneaters. We had very similar lists but I deployed in such a way to charge his ironguts with his general in it a little quicker. Though this scenario didn't matter much, battleline, it was a, end the game if general dies 'special rule'. I did get the third charge off finally after being 'Mawed' to death once. We talked more ogre strategy then we actually played the game. He was 2-1-0 and I was 2-1 before playing. I am pretty sure we finished the game within 1.25 hours and talked for another hour. He ended up being our Opponents Sunday game 3 for the TT.

Adepticon 2012 Friday

Adepticon 2012 Friday. Well we arrived Friday early and looked around at vendors on the way in. Getting ready for the 1,000 pt tournament was a treat because I only had 1 practice game with my Night Goblin army.
List: I ended up taking a general, level 1, bsb, 60 night goblins with the poison banner, fanatics, and nets. A mangler, 2 doom divers, 2 bolt throwers, troll, and a chariot. This allows me to deploy more to once side but still threaten armies with a chariot and bolt throwers in their flanks. Game 1 I played for my first opponent Jake Murphy. A previous opponent from Invasion of Kenosha in 2011. He had his brets with 2 lances and only 3 pegs. A simple list but one that can use point denial and swift charges to his advantage. A bad deployment kept my doom divers from hitting him turn one because I couldn't see him, scenario special rule. Later on I proved to almost destroy 2 units, but breaking from his main lance after 2 other stubborn checks, and then the 3rd I lost. He went onto to win Best General for the AM tournament. Game 2 The second game for the AM 1k tournament, fortitude, went against a Warriors of Chaos player who only had a general. I off set my deployment and shot and threw manglers into the generals unit. He cast the unit deleting spell at my unit 3 times and getting it off once but not having a successful 11 or 12 roll for the second roll. The game ended early at around turn 3 but he knew that he had to move fast and try and roll it. Luckily I had a dispel scroll and luck on my hand side and got my mangler, poison bows, fanatics, chariot, and doom diver Game 3 went to an Orc and Goblin General who lost due to special rules dealing electrical damage to random units. He did take 1 giant, 1 unit of wolf riders, and a unit of Night Goblins. I did a typical shoot and stand back until I had to charge, a win for the night goblins. Later I'll post my Saturday and Sunday Champs and TT coverage!

Acon Prep and War Altar Wrap-up

Been working on more Acon projects and played a game with my Night Goblins. First got the War Altar assembled and now finishing the base. I won't paint this piece but it has been more of a challenge to pin and glue 1 piece at a time. The large bird is a heavy metal single piece which is easy to handle but heavy to glue.
Played a practice game today against a local here in town. Ryan, who was featured on the Waaaghcast Podcast for several episodes, has since sold his Wood Elves and picked up High Elves and Bretonnians. His Brets, played at 1,000 pts and did pretty well against me. He had a solid unit get blown away fanatics, mangler, and magic but the other 2 units made waste of warmachines and chariots. He did have to scatter deploy in our Battleline scenario but that was because I out deployed him. My own doom diver was destroyed by his own trebs and the rock lobber destroyed itself. His trebs then scoured my 60 man horde of night goblins with characters to 21, but after making re-rollable panic checks I charged him and we stood in combat at the end of the game, turn 5. We may have enough time for turn 6 but it was about 5 min over our time limit anyway. He had killed my doom diver, rock lobber, 2 chariots, and magic user who failed 2 LOS from his trebs. In return I killed 316 points one knight errant unit and 1 magic user. I was happy with the list and am considering it next week for Adepticon.
Lastly completed the assembly of the ToS and primed them. As you can see it was plenty of building to spruce up a 2nd building that had a terrible 2nd floor, and at the price of the tower who can blame me?

Easter Update!

Thanks BOLS Well I have not had any games in a week but I thought I would post some updates on modeling. Got in a Rogue Idol from Forge World. Started to assemble a War Altar for a friend and got a mangler squig to work on as well, and started painting some unholy daemons.
Next been working on a building we got in a year ago but just didn't do anything with it. Decided that with old rubble pieces from the Dreadstone blight that I might be able to put together a 2nd tower. So after using a hot knife to cut a new 2 inch stone base out of styrofoam we got the tower together and its 3 stories high and the other is 1.5 stories plus the base. Both are big enough to hide monsters behind and for the price tag, personally, I think its worth it for the 2 larger buildings. Both are in preparation for Mid West Rampage in May!
Buildings now primed black!

Spring Offensive Today

Well went on Vacation recently and got then fed into the shark tank as one of my fellow gamers neutered me at 1,000 pts. We played Blood and glory but with consistent shooting and magic the High elves actually took down my Hero general turn 3. I crumbled by turn 4 and shook the guys hand. VC are not very stable at 1k. Personnally you can't get all the tools you need with them and main units are way to small. Though Brandon only had 2 bolt throwers, a level 2, and 2 archer units, with a scouting unit as well it was enough to erase 3 unit of chaff in the first few turns only allowing me one dire wolf unit to charge, in the flank. My Terrorgeist was out of screem range because he deployed far enough back. So unfortunetly I have decided to change my list for Acon for the friday 1k lists. Other than that we have also been working on the TT list and finished the last movement tray. I'll have pics this month. Lastely, the bloomington crew is heading to East Peoria today to try out 2200 pt lists and play 3 games at the local convention, http://gameroomil.com/springoff//. Washington's 'Game Room' is sponsoring it and we should be heading there is we get prizes. We will be bringing Lizardmen, Vampire Counts, and Ogre Kingdoms. Pics and reports to come. Have a great spring and hope to see everyone at Adepticon.

Ogres Update and Practice Games

Well its the Middle of march. I have been up to some things these past 2 weeks and steadily playtesting team tournament games. I finished painting and molding the last part of my cobblestone 40mm bases so that all of my units have matching scenic bases. This brings the army a little further out asthetically and brightens up the bases. Secondly, I purchased some new space wolfs: wolf packs in their new box of 5 - 1 week ago. My goal with them is to have them for sabretusks. They are big enough and look better than chaos warhounds from 6th edition. My new side project(because we all have one) is going to be Dwarfs. However, I am trying to go for a marauder style army from late 88'-93'. The biggest challenge I am faced with is acquiring models. I need good trades or sales and all of these figs are OOP. So the challenge will begin. The concept will be a special deployment army(well we'll see how far it goes before I cave and make a min/maxed list :). I have had a couple games recently. After the CCGS tournament and running 1-2 I played Stevo in Blood and Glory and took a win versus his Empire. I also played another local Brando against an experimental VC list that was very fast and another win there in Dawn Attack. Another game I played was a battleline team game versus Brando and Aarono which was another win for Steve and I(I think this one may have been before CCGS's tourny). And Just last night played Aarono's Lizards and got a lucky win - BR to follow. So a Lucky streak but we'll see if it pans through.
